International Food Concepts Join Brookfield Place’s Expanding Retail Mix

Brookfield Place is further diversifying its tenant mix with several first-to-market food concepts joining the downtown Toronto complex.

EAK Ramen has selected the property for its first Canadian location, while Las Muns, a Spanish empanada specialist with 38 European locations, has chosen the 181 Bay Street property for its North American market entry. The brand’s efficient 35-square-meter footprint and centralized kitchen system have facilitated its rapid expansion across Spain since 2013.

Zen Kyoto will complement the international offerings, with Chef Jimmy bringing 15 years of culinary expertise to a concept combining traditional Japanese sushi and house-made ramen. Meanwhile, Aster’s Refined Cakes, an Etobicoke-based modern French patisserie established in 2021, will take over the former Lindt space adjacent to Dave’s Hot Chicken, bringing its signature light-sugar, flavour-focused desserts to the Financial District.

The new food concepts join a recently transformed dining landscape that includes Colaba Junction’s Mumbai-inspired street food (Unit C 140), Montreal-based Pigeon Coffee adjacent to the Hockey Hall of Fame, The Brick Room, Dave’s Hot Chicken, Forest Hill Farmhouse, and Tiger’s Cup Bap’s Korean BBQ concept.

Toronto-based Impact Kitchen, a nutrition focused all day restaurant & cafe serving breakfast, brunch, lunch & dinner opened streetside at 181 Bay Street on September 30th of last year.

Adding to the property’s evolution, Neutral Pilates will bring its premium fitness concept to the complex, reflecting Brookfield Place’s strategic expansion into lifestyle offerings that complement its robust food and beverage program. These arrivals build on Brookfield Place’s established retail ecosystem anchored by The Market by Longo’s grocery store and Shoppers Drug Mart. The complex houses a comprehensive service sector including three major car rental agencies (Avis at 161 Bay Street, Enterprise and Hertz at 181 Bay Street), and personal care services such as Blowdry Lounge and Toothworks.

Fashion and specialty retail maintain a strong presence with Roots Canada, Pace Men’s Collection, and Pistil Flowers, while essential services include Gateway Newstands, Jo’s Shoe Repair, Vogue Dry Cleaners, and The Printing House. Notable tenants at 161 Bay Street include Truefitt & Hill Barber Shop and ONYX.

The complex’s retail footprint spans the block bound by Bay, Wellington, Yonge, and Front Streets, anchored by major attractions like the Hockey Hall of Fame and its Spirit of Hockey retail store. TD Canada Trust and Rogers provide financial and telecommunications services, respectively.

Las Muns’ entry suggests growing confidence in the property’s recovery, with the brand typically seeking franchise partners capable of establishing 3-10 locations within three years in markets exceeding 100,000 residents.

Under Beauleigh‘s exclusive leasing mandate, Brookfield Place continues evolving its 2.6-million-square-foot complex to serve both the Financial District’s daytime office population and the area’s expanding residential community. The property’s strategic mix of quick-service dining, retail, and essential services reinforces its position as a key downtown Toronto destination.
